Psoriasis sufferer? This is the best approach to heal! Guest blog by Marissa Liana

This guest blog is brought to you courtesy of Marissa Liana who writes about holistic nutrition on her website: https://www.marissaliana.com/

Your skin is your largest organ on your body and is considered a detoxification organ. The health of your skin is therefore an outward indicator of what is going on internally.

It is for this reason that I feel passionately about taking a natural and holistic approach to skin healing, specifically when it comes to psoriasis.

Psoriasis is an inflammatory and autoimmune condition, which means the body’s immune system is inappropriately responding to its own tissues. The problem with trying to heal an autoimmune condition outwardly alone, is that you’re likely not addressing the root cause of the immune system dysfunction, as approximately 80% of the immune system resides in the gut. The health of the gut is therefore the first place you should look when trying to support the health of your skin and immune system.

Research has shown that people who suffer from digestive related issues such as bloating, gas & constipation are much more likely to suffer from skin conditions, such as psoriasis than those who do not. Imbalances in gut flora, particularly in individuals who have more bad bacteria than good bacteria, increase their risk of altered immune function, compromised gut health and skin issues.

HERE'S WHY

1️⃣ Good bacteria help to strengthen the lining of our guts, which helps to prevent increased intestinal permeability or "leaky gut". When we have a leaky gut, undigested food, toxins and proteins can make their way into our bloodstream. This should NOT normally happen, and when it does, causes an inflammatory cascade and our body and immune system signals an attack on these foreign invaders. Symptoms of leaky gut often show up on our SKIN & FACE*.

3️⃣ Good bacteria help to reduce markers of inflammation in the body. Psoriasis is an inflammatory condition..

With that being said, a holistic approach to healing the skin also considers what we are putting on our body, not just in our body.

Not all skincare products are created equal, and some may actually be doing more hard than good! How? 60% of what you put on your skin is absorbed into your bloodstream! This becomes highly problematic when the skin and beauty products you are using contain endocrine disrupting (hormone-disrupting) chemicals and even carcinogens. Some of the most popular ones to watch out for in skin care products include: parabens, phalates, and triclosan. The reason why I LOVE psoriasis honey so much is because the ingredients are AU NATURAL!!

Check out how clean and delicious these ingredients are!

  • Organic Pure Honey Excellent antibacterial properties and skin protectant

  • Organic Beeswax Intense moisturizing. Rich in Vitamin A

  • Organic Grapeseed Oil Highly effective emollient that soothes dry skin

  • Organic Sunflower Oil Forms a protective layer. Loaded with antioxidants

  • Salicylic Acid Actively promotes the turnover of dead skin cells

This cream is definitely something I can get behind, and while I don’t suffer from psoriasis myself, I have been LOVING the moisture level it provides! I have used it on my face and all over my body and it doesn’t clog the pores at all!
